Independent Seminars - all seminars
Adhesives 2010 with John Kanca
30th Apr 2010 Royal College of Physicians, London
“Full of content and evidence-based material..”
Peter Hodgkinson, Independent Dental Practitioners, Chairman 2009
Come and join John Kanca as he covers the most important aspects of adhesive dentistry for all types of bonding procedures.
Dr Kanca will cover:
- Adhesives and principles of adhesion
- Types of adhesives
- Understanding resin bonding systems
- Understanding the confusing generational names
- Resin adhesives
Also to be discussed will be the sealing of crown preparations in an effort to end sensitivity in all crown and bridge efforts, placement techniques for class I, II and IV and V restorations, where flowable composite is absolutely needed, how to keep class II sub-gingival margins sealed and proof that it can be done.
You will see how it is possible to create large, durable restorations that are virtually direct crowns. Resin polymerisation will be covered, along with enticing new data on LED lights.
Most current resin composites polymerise rapidly, some in about 10 seconds if you have a reasonably powerful light. One of the most useful and controversial issues currently is the concept of not removing all caries affected tissue. What to leave, what to take out will be explained, and so will the ability to predict when this will be successful and when it might not. There will be an overview of current ceramics, how to bond ceramics and how to repair ceramics.
Learning objectives:
- Maximise the performance of resin bonding agents
- Place large, durable resin composite restorations
- Be able to evaluate types of tooth pain and treat accordingly
- Know how to establish proper posterior contacts
- Be able to place all types of composite restorations without sensitivity
- Know how and why to seal crown preps
- Eliminate post-operative sensitivity with crown and bridge work
John Kanca enjoys an interactive seminar and will be asking you for your questions, so please feel free to bring them with you.

About Dr John Kanca
Dr John Kanca, III, is a graduate of the University Of Connecticut School Of Dental Medicine. He maintains a private practice in Middlebury, Connecticut, with the emphasis on cosmetic dentistry. Dr Kanca has published over 50 original articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals, and his work has revolutionised the field of adhesive dentistry.
He gave validation to etching of dentine with phosphoric acid, proved that resins can be
used as pulp-capping agents, discovered the concept known as wet-bonding and has contributed significantly to the understanding of how resins attach to dentine.
Some of his latest work involves the best method of initiating light-activated resin composites in order to create the lowest interfacial stresses, and has created the protocol known as ‘pulse activation.’
Dr Kanca has invented a no-rinse adhesive system, a revolutionary ceramic primer and holds numerous patents. He has received many honours, including the Gordon Christensen Awards from the Chicago Dental Society, the Albert Knab Award from the Academy of General Dentistry, the William Gies Award from the First District Dental Society of New York, the Larry Pearson Award from the Connecticut State Dental Association, and the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American Academy of Aesthetic
Cosmetic Dentistry.
